The thesis for an ethical argument writing must convey the ethical standards and rules being argued as to how far scientists should go with genetic modification.
Example THESIS: As scientists worldwide are repeatedly encouraged to pursue additional implementation of genetic modification, Christian-Americans must urge lawmakers to limit such research, cease experimentation on human DNA, and outlaw such manipulative procedures on future Americans prior to their ability to speak for themselves.
Example THESIS Explained: As scientists are repeatedly encouraged to pursue additional implementation of genetic modification [key point], Christian-Americans [key point focused on which sub-group ethical standards will be adhered to in the argument] must urge lawmakers to limit such research [1st sub-point to argue in the ethical argument], cease experimentation on human DNA [2nd sub-point to argue in the ethical argument], and outlaw such manipulative procedure on future Americans prior to their ability to speak for themselves [3rd sub-point to argue in the ethical argument].
The essay paragraphs would then follow the essay mapping to argue the sub-points in the ethical argument:
Introduction paragraph: HOOK sentence, background, Thesis—that includes the ethical standard: in the case of the sample above, Christian ethics (3-7 sentences)
Body paragraph 1: Christian-Americans must urge lawmakers to limit genetic modification research [1st sub-point to argue in the ethical argument—focused on the sub-point through Christian ethical standards]
Body-paragraph 2: Christian-Americans must fight to cease experimentation on human DNA [2nd sub-point to argue in the ethical argument—focused on the sub-point through Christian ethical standards]
Body-paragraph 3: Christian-Americans must support laws that illegalize such manipulative procedure on American babies prior to their ability to speak for themselves [3rd sub-point to argue in the ethical argument—focused on the sub-point through Christian ethical standards]
Body-paragraph Counter-argument: opposition viewpoints to your ethical standards and/or ethical argument views from the body-paragraphs (and then argue why these counter-arguments aren’t as logical and productive as your ethical argument)
Conclusion paragraph: Thesis revisited, summarize topic sentence/closing sentences from body paragraphs, exit sentence to leave the reader focused on accepting the ethical standards and ramifications of not following such ethical views on the topic of genetic modification (3-10 sentences)
