Is background content on the issue needed in this essay?
While you can have some background on the ethical issue, again, like the last paper, this is not a very long essay, and so there is not much space for background content. Stick to the ethical argument to prove in the body paragraphs...NOT the historical content surrounding the issue.
Body-paragraphs should focus on the ethical argument...
Focus on arguing your ethical argument based on a specific ethical standard, and move forward asserting that ethical standard and its support for what you have established as your ethical argument.
Focus on YOUR Argument on the Ethics of the Issue (based on an Ethical Standard)...
Focus on identifying your ethical viewpoint of the issue, based on a chosen ethical standard. What ethical standard are you going to argue the issue based upon? If you do not understand what an ethical standard is, please see the handout link above.

Ethical arguments require 3 things:
- an ethical standard: such as Christianity,
- a controversial topic: such as genetic engineering of humans, and
- an argument: an assertive declaration of how the ethical standard determines the required ethical viewpoint of the controversial topic: such as do not murder, created in God’s image, and the understanding of original sin.

The QUICK VERSION: What are the Differences between Ethics and Morals??
Ethics and morals relate to “right” and “wrong” conduct.
While they are sometimes used interchangeably, they are different.
- Ethics refer to rules provided by an external source, e.g., codes of conduct in workplaces or principles in religions.
- Morals refer to an individual's own principles regarding right and wrong.
